Hiakai is a 30 seat restaurant open for dinner from 5:30pm Wednesday to Saturday.
Hiakai offers a set menu for a variety of reasons. We aren’t cooking to tell you a story, but to engage our guests in a shared narrative (although we know the ending, and all the good bits). We want our offerings to be fresh, seasonal, and thoughtful, and we hate to waste good kai.
A set menu allows us to do all of these things, and alongside our beverage programme is a dynamic and reflective expression of what we value, and what we share.
As part of your booking, you will be asked to provide credit card information. This will be stored securely, and in the event of a breach of our booking policy we reserve the right to charge this card for the total amount indicated on your booking. Our reservation policy is fully explained during the booking process. We recommend making your booking six weeks prior to your preferred dining date to avoid disappointment.

Hiakai offers three menus - six, eight, or ten courses.
You will be asked to choose one of these options during the booking process. Each menu contains the dishes of the menu(s) before it.
Early bookings (5:30 or 6:00 pm seatings) may be required to have the table returned to Hiakai for a second seating. We allow three hours at the table in these cases, and this will be communicated directly with the table on the night.
Dietary requirements and sensitivities
For vegetarian guests, and guests with sensitivities to lactose or gluten, please ensure to note these requirements in our booking form.
For all other dietary requirements, please contact Hiakai before making your booking so we can discuss necessary arrangements.
Hiakai offers two options for beverage matching - an alcoholic option consisting of wine, beer, and mixed drinks, and a non-alcoholic option which includes fermented sodas, juices, drinking shrubs, and so on. We have a small and carefully curated winelist, with some by-the-glass options for guests wishing to order wine à la carte.
Our booking portal organises these matches as ‘supplements’ - these are charged at a per-head price.

At the chef’s counter
Ten courses at the chef’s counter is our most interactive and exciting experience, and as such seating is at a premium. We have four seats available per night at the counter, and we prepare, plate, and present the entirety of our ten course menu directly. Please keep in mind that the available seating is at bar stools, and that conversation for groups of more than two may be hampered by this.
Hiakai in unable to accept walkins - dinner is by reservation only. We release our bookings semi-seasonally, and at present are taking bookings through the end of October 2019. For information about other dates, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Private events and larger bookings
Hiakai is available for private events outside of our normal opening days. These can be for lunches, dinners, or other occasions. Due to our size, the number of guests is limited to 40.
